If the vCenter database size is 300 GB or greater, the file-based backup will fail with a timeout. The following error message is displayed: Timeout! Failed to complete in 72000 seconds

VMware has made the vSphere 7 generally available last week – and sure enough, a mere split second later I already saw people reporting that they upgraded, and Veeam Backup & Replication 10 appears to work fine with it. While in general this was expected, as v10 includes support for the latest vSphere 7.0 RC build that was available to us at the time – as usual, we'll need to perform the full regression testing on the generally available vSphere 7 build before we can declare the official support. And while v10 may appear to "just work" with it, I can tell you that this required bigger-than-usual changes under the hood on our side, due to vSphere 7 deprecating many legacy APIs. So at least in theory, the possibility of regressions is more significant than with the previous vSphere releases. Because of that, it would be smart not to jump the gun!

As usual, I like to jump right into software upgrades to test out new functionality (on none production systems of-course). With the GA of vSphere7 overnight, I went about upgrading my Homelab vCenter and ESXi host. The vCenter upgrade went well, but I ran into an issue after I upgraded the ESXi Host using the online bundle upgrade.

So my assumption was that because the Intel Drivers where only compatible up to ESXi 6.7, with the Default VMware drivers disabled, there was no fall back. As William Lam states here, the original performance issue was fixed in Update 1 of 6.5, and suggested to re-enable the Default VMware AHCI driver. After re-enabling the drivers, I rebooted and tried the upgrade again… this time with success and with all the Datastores listed.

Буквально на днях (28.03.2020) выяснилось, что ряд моделей твердотельных серверных накопителей HPE имеет прошивку, которая может приводить к необратимой гибели накопителя вместе с данными после 40 тысяч работы. Предупреждения HPE, что данную «ошибку в генах» несут не только её SSD, оказались правдой.

По аналогичной причине могут выходить из строя и некоторые серверные SSD от Dell EMC ёмкостью от 200 Гбайт до 1,6 Тбайт.
